Sodere Hot Springs

Boy! My blogging keeps getting further and further behind! Its tough, since I want to share so many pictures...and its very difficult to get the uploaded! Internet connection at the hotel is very spotty, especially during the day. The best connection seems to be in the very early morning hours, probably because most people are still asleep!

Saturday after our training wrapped up, we headed out to Sodere Hot Springs for a little relaxation. It didn't take us long to get there, despite the traffic (both 4 legged and 4 wheeled!).

When we arrived, not only did they charge us an entrance fee per person, they also charged us for the bottles of water we had in the car. That was a first for me!

The grounds were very pretty. Lush and full of vegitation with little bungalows spread throughout. We weren't staying over night though so we weren't able to see what the rooms looked like inside. My guess is very basic, which seems to be the theme for most of the accommodations.

The river rushing by looked dangerous. Swift currents told us to 'stay out', and further along the trail we even found a sign telling us the same thing

There was a big troop of Vervet monkeys hanging out near the hot springs. Stealing food when it was available, these guys were full of mischief and definitely waiting to get into trouble. I'm sure if you forgot to roll up your windows they would take full advantage and rummage through your car looking for treats.

They were not shy at all, and even the mothers with babies clinging to them would come up and sit very close, hoping for a snack.

We walked along the river for a little bit. It was rushing by fast and furiously.

Amir took advantage of the warm water and soaked his feet for a few minutes.

As we walked along, we came across some guys working on big pile of bricks. Three guys would pick up 2 bricks at a time and toss them behind them onto a new pile. A 4th guy called out numbers as they did this, and yet another guy wrote down the count as they went along. It seemed like very tiring work.

After a little more walking, we came across one of 2 pools. It was relatively quiet on Saturday, and both Getachew and Amir said Sunday was the big day for families to come spend at the hot springs.

We lounged by the pool for an hour or so while Getachew swam. It was a great way to end a busy week of training.
